Common name: Commelina benghalensis – Bengal Dayflower

Disease Name

Commelina benghalensis – Bengal Dayflower

Target Crops:
Maize (Corn)

About the Problem:
Commelina benghalensis is a troublesome broad-leaved weed capable of spreading rapidly in moist agricultural fields. Its creeping growth can interfere with maize establishment and compete with the crop for nutrients, water, light and growing space.

Season of Occurrence:
Most prevalent during the Kharif/rainy season when warm temperatures and high soil moisture favour vigorous growth. It may persist for longer periods where sufficient moisture is available.
